Ending Period Poverty and Stigma

DropRed Storytelling Competition

The Drop-red Storytelling Competition is organized every year in commemoration of Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD) which is celebrated every May 28th. In alignment with the event and in a bid to amplify the voices of women and girls and recruit men as allies in the menstrual advocacy cause, demanding for an end to menstruation stigma and poverty, we welcome submissions each year that support “Breaking the taboo around menstruation and ending the stigma”.

Competition Requirements:

The competition is open to both boys and girls between the ages of 15 and 35, and submissions can be entered ONLY in English Language in the following categories;

  • 1- Short stories of not more than 2000 words. Only one story will be accepted per entran,
  • 2- Digital stories or pocket films (films shot with your smartphone) of not more than 3 minutes, with good sound and image quality. Only one film per entrant,
  • 3- Essays of not more than 1500 words. Only one essay can be submitted per entrant,

For digital stories or pocket films, once complete, please upload the digital story or pocket film on a video streaming platform like YouTube, Vimeo, etc and share the link via email alongside a short biography.

To complement our advocacy activities in this domain, we will equally be training young girls in local communities to produce and use washable and reusable pads for their economic and ecological advantages.
