Displacement often strips girls of power, voice, and visibility. Even when they return to school, displaced girls are rarely included in decision-making or leadership spaces. This exclusion reinforces silence, dependency, and disengagement.
At Girls HerRising, we believe that girls do not need to wait until adulthood or formal titles to exercise leadership. When given opportunity, support, and legitimacy, displaced girls can influence decisions, challenge harmful norms, and shape systems that affect their education, dignity, and futures.
Our ecosystem focuses on creating real pathways for girls to lead from within their schools and communities, while also ensuring their voices reach the spaces where policies and priorities are set.
We embed leadership opportunities within schools and peer spaces where displaced girls already are, enabling them to exercise responsibility, influence norms, and take action in ways that are practical, sustained, and accountable.
This model ensures that leadership is not symbolic. It is practised regularly, grounded in lived experience, and sustained beyond one-off interventions.
While leadership is built through everyday practice, displaced girls also need pathways to influence decisions beyond their immediate environments. Girls HerRising creates platforms that elevate displaced girls’ voices, connect them to decision-makers, and translate lived experience into advocacy and accountability. Explore how displaced girls are driving advocacy from consultation to action through What Girls in Crisis Want and the Girls in Crisis Summit
We are the only organization in Cameroon dedicated exclusively to supporting internally displaced girls and young women affected by the Anglophone Crisis.
