For displaced girls and young women, education is more than a right. It is the bridge to opportunity, self-reliance, and leadership. Yet conflict, poverty, and discrimination often close the door to learning. We reopen it.
At Girls HerRising, we believe that when a girl has access to education and the tools to succeed, she can transform not only her own life but the future of her community.
We help displaced girls return to school, complete their studies, and gain the skills they need for life beyond crisis. Our support ranges from academic scholarships and vocational training to digital literacy and mentorship, ensuring each girl has a pathway suited to her goals and circumstances. By combining learning opportunities with practical skills and role models, we empower them to break cycles of exclusion, early marriage, and economic dependency.
Our flagship initiatives to increase access to education for displaced girls and young women include:
ECSMI is our core education programme, supporting displaced girls and young women to complete secondary school, pursue university education, or gain technical and vocational skills for economic independence.
Through ECSMI, scholars receive:
- Tuition or training support
- Learning materials and vocational toolkits
- Digital inclusion (mobile devices, data, and basic digital literacy, where possible)
- Mentorship, peer networks, and leadership development
By pairing financial access with holistic support, ECSMI transforms education from a distant hope into a sustained journey, from enrolment to graduation and beyond.

The ECSMI Godparent Initiative is a sponsorship pathway within our education pillar, designed to ensure displaced girls can remain in school and complete their studies with dignity and continuity.
Godparents support a displaced girl’s education by covering tuition and, depending on the level of commitment, contributing to learning materials, digital access, wellbeing, and mentorship. This model fosters long-term impact, accountability, and meaningful connections between supporters and scholars.
