A Girl-Led Consultation Process to Inform Action and Advocacy for Displaced Girls in Cameroon.

What Girls in Crisis Want is Girls HerRising’s girl-led consultation and advocacy initiative designed to ensure that displaced girls’ priorities shape the decisions, policies, and programmes that affect their lives.

Too often, responses to crisis are designed about girls rather than with them. This initiative exists to change that by starting with girls’ voices and carrying them into spaces where action can be demanded.

Through locally grounded, girl-centred consultations, displaced girls and young women identify what they need to learn, stay safe, and thrive in crisis contexts. Their experiences, priorities, and solutions are captured in their own words and synthesised into a public advocacy report that challenges assumptions and informs more responsive programmes and policies.

The Girls in Crisis Summit

The advocacy process culminates in the Girls in Crisis Summit, the action platform within the initiative. Grounded in insights from What Girls in Crisis Want, the Summit creates space for direct engagement between displaced girls, policymakers, civil society, and allies. It is designed to move girls’ voices beyond documentation and into decision-making spaces, connecting lived experience to visibility, accountability, and concrete action across issues such as education, safety, health, and livelihoods.

Together, consultations, the advocacy report, and the Summit form a single, connected pathway, from listening to girls, to elevating their priorities, to demanding action from those with the power to respond.

What Girls in Crisis Want reflects Girls HerRising’s commitment to ethical, girl-led advocacy that treats displaced girls not as beneficiaries, but as experts of their own lives.
